Matthew's West End credits include : Colonel Ricci in Passion at the Bridewell (March to April 2004); Younger Brother in Ragtime at the Piccadilly (2003 - Olivier Award Nomination 2004 for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical); Feuilly in Les Misérables at the Palace Theatre; Monsieur Reyer in The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty's; Mary Sunshine in Chicago at the Adelphi; Gabriel in Kiss of the Spiderwoman at the Shaftesbury; Seth in Children of Eden at the Prince Edward Theatre and Falke in Die Fledermaus at the Arts Theatre.

Regional Theatre credits include : Will Parker in Oklahoma! at the Liverpool Playhouse; Scotty in Merrily We Roll Along at the Haymarket, Leicester; Parsloe in The Card, Watermill Theatre, Newbury; the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz, Theatr Clwyd and Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Civic Theatre, Chelmsford.

Concert work includes : Bridewell 10th Anniversary Concerts; The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber (Prince Edward Theatre); the European première of Ragtime (St David's Hall, Cardiff); a series of Bernstein/Gershwin concerts in Germany and Slovenia, and the 10th Anniversary concert of Les Misérables at the Royal Albert Hall.

Recordings include : the British cast recordings of Stephen Sondheim's Passion and Merrily We Roll Along; the cast album of Children of Eden; and the International recording of Les Misérables 10th Anniversary Concert.

RAGSMatthew is also an acclaimed theatre director and credits include : the British première of The Last Five Years (Menier Chocolate Factory); Rent and Cabaret (English Theatre, Frankfurt); the British premiere of The Last Session (Acorn Theatre, Hackney Empire); Far From the Madding Crowd (Watermill Theatre, Newbury and Belgrave Theatre, Coventry); Carousel (Blackpool Grand and National Tour); The Demon Headmaster (Churchill Theatre, Bromley and National Tour); the British première of Rags (Bridewell Theatre); A Little Night Music (Chelsea Theatre); Closer Than Ever (Jermyn Street Theatre); Maria Friedman - By Special Arrangement (Donmar Warehouse); The Dream Dealer (Bridewell Theatre); Starting Here, Starting Now and The Two Gentlemen of Verona (Link Theatre); The Pirates of Penzance (Pleasance Theatre); Oklahoma! and Iolanthe (Arts Theatre, Cambridge).

Matthew was also Associate Director for the RNT's production of Carousel in Tokyo with an all-Japanese cast. Other productions include David Copperfield, Hot Mikado and Orpheus, for which he wrote the lyrics and script.

Staging a MusicalMatthew is a Visiting Director at Mountview Theatre School, The Royal Academy of Music, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the London School of Musical Theatre and Milenium Dance 2000.

Matthew has also written books for the theatre including :

NEWS

Matthew is currently directing the Alan Menken/Howard Ashman show Little Shop of Horrors which has transferred to the West End's Duke of York theatre following a sell-out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory. The show stars Sheridan Smith, Paul Keating, Alistair McGowan, Barry James and Mike McShane and is booking till September 1.

PREVIOUSLY :

Matthew directed the long-awaited UK première of Jason Robert Brown's two-hander The Last Five Years at the Menier Chocolate Factory on London's South Bank. The show ran from July 18 to September 30, 2006 and starred Lara Pulver (Miss Saigon, High Society) and Australian actor Damian Humbley (The Woman in White). 

Towards the end of 2004, Matthew took part in a workshop production of a new musical written by Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens) titled Moonshadow after his 1971 hit record. Others taking part included West End stars Lyn Paul, Paul Keating, Ramin Karimloo and Jérome Prâdon.

Matthew also appeared in the Bridewell Theatre 10TH Anniversary Farewell Concerts in December 2005.
